Amsterdam Style Apartment

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Take a look at our latest short stay Amsterdam rental apartment, Multatuli, named after Holland’s famous author.  This recently renovated apartment (2007) is located in a typical 18th century building, in Amsterdam’s hip Jordaan district.

Multatuli

Full of history, the house was built around 1790 and is a national monument. In the 1820s it was home to the young Multatuli, Holland’s most famous author. You can visit the museum dedicated to him a few streets away in the house of his birth and the large statue of him on the Torensluis Bridge on the Singel canal.

Totally renovated in 2007, the house has retained its historical details, yet offers every modern comfort and convenience. Spacious (140m2) and stylishly furnished, it offers 3 good-sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the sought-after neighbourhood of the northern Jordaan and Haarlemmerstraat. It features beamed ceilings throughout, wooden stairs and the traditional Dutch steeply slanted roof in the attic bedroom.  Read more…

Amsterdam IBC 2009 Accommodation

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The most important business event in Amsterdam, the IBC (International Broadcast Conference) is approaching fast and the city is already getting ready for this exciting time. The conference will be held from 10th to 14th of September 2009 and the exhibition from 11th to 15th September 2009, both at the RAI Centre.

The IBC is the main European appointment for international companies of all sizes that specialize in the communication industry as well as for all those visitors who wish to take advantage of the great concentration of knowledge, training sessions and the networking opportunities created by this event.

Apartments are in great demand as an alternative corporate accommodation solution to hotels. More and more business travelers look for the comfort of spacious fully equipped charming apartments as opposed to the impersonal feel of a hotel room. Some of these short-stay apartments in Amsterdam are ideal for business travelers who wish to live an intense exhibition experience during the day while enjoying some rest and relaxation in the evening or even have a chance to do some sightseeing in Amsterdam.

Some companies though have a more pragmatic approach to the conference and prefer accommodating their staff members in one location. They usually choose to stay in serviced apartment buildings like the Delastage Apartments, which feature a more contemporary design and can allocate multiple units.

The Beletage of Amsterdam

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Amsterdam still shows the architectural grandeur of the Dutch Golden Age in the XVII century, when the flourishing of trade, arts and sciences remodeled the urban planning, new canals that were being dug to expand the city and the richest merchants, and generally the patricians, had their beautiful canal houses built alongside the canals as a display of their social status. On the keisersgracht’s canal (literally Canal of the Lords) some of the most representative canal houses of the time can still be admired in all their splendour.

Their ornamented stone façades are very impressive; however the most prominent features of a canal house front are its entrance, the piano nobile and the distinctive decorative elements like the gables. A few steps above street level, with pillars on each side, opens an imposing door. The main parlour faces the canal side offering great canal views from its impressive, large windows.

The Keisersgracht Bel-etage apartment is a beautiful example of the splendour of the time.

Cute House Boats in Amsterdam

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Looking for something different in Amsterdam?  Want to rent a cute house boat instead of a hotel?  Take a look at our latest addition in Amsterdam, the Jordaan Houseboat.

Jordaan house boat amsterdam rental

The Jordaan Houseboat offers all the comfort you would need for your stay and it really looks like a normal house: living room with open kitchen, dining room, double and single bedrooms, bathroom and balcony. Everything in this accommodation is very well looked after, clean and cozy.

Because it is not really built on a boat, but on a floating concrete block, it doesn’t swing much with the waves of the passing boats. In the winter, the central heating will keep you warm, because you can set the temperature you want.

Amsterdam Historical Houses

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Some of the ancient typical Dutch buildings are still preserved in the centre of Amsterdam . Some are privetely owned and have been renovated to bring them back to life, maintaining the original details of the XVIIth century.

The Sonnenberg House for instance is registered as a heritage building, right on the Herengracht canal, in the central ring of old Amsterdam. This has been restored to accommodate visitors who love historical beauty and wish to have a special city break in Amsterdam.

Grand Sonnenberg Apartment, Amsterdam

Grand Sonnenberg Apartment, Amsterdam

This apartment is housed in a beautifully-restored 17th century building. This was one of the earlier houses that was built along the Herengracht. Inside you still see many original features, such as wooden beams, wooden floors and wooden circular stairs. Everything is very much like it was when it was first built. Most buildings from the 17th century have been changed much over the past 300 years, whereas this one has stayed the same. For instance, its gable - a stair-step type of design at the top of the triangular gable-end of a building - is a classical renaissance crow-stepped one; this detail gives you a hint of what can be expected inside this house.
